John Micander
John Micander, a native New Mexican, has been building dwellings in Alaska, California and New Mexico since 1975. In 1982, he combined passive solar design and rammed earth construction to build his personal home. Micander emphasizes earth friendly design in his construction.
In an industrialized society, people build with the most profitable materials. It is difficult to make a profit from the sun's energy, so promotion of it's use is minimal.
People can profit suppliers and energy companies by building frame houses with massive heating and cooling systems, or they can build with earth and use the sun to profit our environment. Choices made now will affect the quality of life now and in the future.
